Poolewe Ceilidh Partnership

The Poolewe Ceilidh Partnership holds a ceilidh every Wednesday evening in July and August in Poolewe Hall. Each one features a visiting band and local musicians, with home-baking during the interval, and a raffle. The ceilidhs are suitable for all ages, and a dance caller is on hand for those who want to join in but do not know the dances. The less active were welcome just to sit and enjoy the music.

Great Wilderness Challenge

Every year, the picturesque Scottish Highland villages of Poolewe and Aultbea, along with the surrounding country estates, play host to one of Scotland's most gruelling endurance sporting events for charity. The Great Wilderness Challenge more than aptly lives up to its name.

Against some of the most beautiful and rugged scenic landscape on offer in the United Kingdom, the Challenge consists of a number of physically demanding walks and races over a variety of distances and terrains.

The event caters for the needs of many different charities, but the Highland Hospice remains the main one, and has received a total in excess of £1.3 million from the efforts of GWC walkers and runners. The event itself has donated an incredible total of £4 million in its over 30 year history. For many years it has been easily the biggest one-day fundraising event in Ross-shire.
